Kronu (1)

The typical attire of a Kronu citizen prior to the Kronu Civil War.

The Kronu are a race of diplomats who inhabit the Fried Egg Galaxy. Their territory occupies around 1/8 of their galaxy & large amounts of spice & other metals are present through out the Kronu Territories. As of now, the Kronu have been under a 50-year conflict divided between warlords. The conflict is often called the Kronu Civil War, but there have been no influential factions for 40 years.

History[]

Tribe Stage[]

According to findings published by Kronu authorities, the tribal stage was rather diverse and may have functioned under a type of direct democratic rule commonly supervised by an exilist priest.

Civ Stage[]

The civ stage for the Kronu was rather quick: through shrewd diplomacy and a bloody world war, the Kronu quickly united under the banner of the Kronu Republic, a state somewhat similar to that of the present-day Kronu State.

Space Stage[]

Expansion[]

Once they have reached the space stage, the Kronu were able to quickly colonize their surrounding territories to its' present day borders mostly by peaceful means. The government at the time was stable & functional, able to quickly address problems that have persisted since the space stage: uneven economic development, increasing gap between the rich and poor classes, increasing divide between the government and exilist church, and lack of modern infrastructure.

Leftist Rule[]

The problems all cumulated to a bloodless coup caused by a disgruntled leftist politician named Tari Bozaz. From there, the renamed Kronu Popular Republic embarked on a radical turn in history. During Bozaz' rule, half of the spice industries were nationalized along with civilian industries. A bloody modernization campaign was pursued by the leftist government caused the death of over 5,000 due to uneven food distribution, apartments collapsing due to poor construction methods, and planetary transportation accidents. But the rule of Bozaz was with significant results: Class conflict drastically decreased, infrastructure improved, and the military increased in size to keep the Kronu Popular Republic defended from Bruntos raids. However, it developed problems as well: the exilist church was harassed consistently, infrastructure was not up to modern standards, and the divide between the Bozaz regime, Kronu public, and the military at the same time.

November 8 coup[]

The problems cumulated to another coup, led by the Kronu Military under Ukul Krunnoz & with heavy support by the exilist church. But the coup turned bloody & nearly led to a civil war due to its' rather large scope. Eventually, Krunnoz rose supreme from the conflict. He expelled Bozaz & his supporters, remodeled the Kronu government after past exilist governments, and reestablished the Kronu Republic.

Krunnoz' Rule[]

The first 2 years[]

Under the initial military dictatorship of Ukul Krunnoz, numerous leftist campaigns initiated by the Bozaz government were either halted, expanded, or reverted. Spice industries continued to be nationalized as well as certain mining facilities & Kronu transportation. The nationalization campaigns on industries were halted & some were eventually privatized in order to expand the Kronu Economy.

Establishing a new government[]

Statue of Krunnoz

Krunnoz would modernize the Kronu at the cost of suppressing the rights of his citizens.

With his popularity higher than any other leader before, Krunnoz used the opportunity to turn over military rule to civilian authority. He would found the political party Kronu National (NK), a nationalist exilist socialistic party, cement NK power over Kronu society through single-party rule, and establish exilism as the official religion. The Krunnoz government would establish diplomatic relations with other empires in the Fried Egg galaxy as well as reaching out for exilist empires in the universe. It all resulted in the Kronu Economy getting richer at the cost of corruption within the Krunnoz Government.

Decline & Authoritarian Rule[]

With the collapse of Exilism in the universe, Krunnoz immediately changed the establishment by erasing exilism from society in order to avoid another bloody coup against his rule. It caused the NK to distance itself from its' established exilist roots & program to the point of becoming a rubber stamp heavily dependent on the leadership of Krunnoz. When the population from their farthest colonies begun anti-corruption protests, Krunnoz used the military to quietly put down the "riots" and establish Emergency Law. At that point & for the next 15 years, Krunnoz became dependent on the military to keep himself in power.

Kronu Revolution[]

Protests[]

Galactic Change Part 18 (1)

The Kronu revolution began with peaceful protests. The spark for conflict began with the major protest at Manpuntos.

A rival political party, the Kronu Dzeerazza Party (DKP), was established with the goal of ending corruption, limiting military control, and transitioning to a more socialistic society. Krunnoz took no chances and immediately banned the group in suspicion that the DKP would challenge his 20 year rule. The DKP would utilize civil disobedience & peaceful protests to have their message get across the citizens. The citizens spontaneously joined thanks to their growing discontent with emergency rule suppressing their basic rights. Soon enough remnants of the old Bozaz government united with the DKP, establishing the United Kronu Revolutionary Struggle (UKRS) with the primary goal of ousting Krunnoz & ending military interference with government affairs. The UKRS made their first major protest at the capital, Manpuntos, only to be met with the military open firing at the unarmed crowds.

After the violent suppression, the UKRS released a statement declaring war on Krunnoz and the NK government, vowing to overthrow them through a violent insurrection.

Start of conflict[]

Galactic Change Part 21 (1)

Up to the resignation of Krunnoz, the Kronu Revolution has claimed some 900 million lives with 2 billion displaced citizens.

The release of the statement soon followed with the UKRS seizing the second largest colony of Lutuk one week later. While the present intergalactic consensus was that UKRS action was widely popular, refugees from the colony reported UKRS soldiers burning down NK and government buildings and lynching government officials and hanging them outside of windows, followed by blacklisting and jailing (along with possible torture) of Krunnoz sympathizers. It was determined that 25 were killed in the conquest, but some 2000 were killed afterwards. On the other hand, the UKRS immediately began public works projects like the construction of a hydroelectric dam at the city center (which was completed within a year of UKRS seizure of Lutuk), laying out farmland within Lutuk (the colony was known to be notoriously dry in its planetary cycle), construction of 1-room family shelters, and, prematurely declaring victory, commissioning the construction of a city hall.

Much controversy surrounds as to how the UKRS was able to seize Lutuk. It is alleged that the UKRS received weapons and supplies from the Dzzitian and the Kungoz, the latter of which denies. Declassified Dzzitian documents have shown that the Dzzitians initially supported the UKRS rebellion and providing fuel and ready transportation for the rebels. UKRS propaganda has shown soldiers using domestically-made tanks and weapons, suggesting that there were some Kronu generals and governors defecting to the rebels. Krunnoz has confirmed that out of the 25 generals within the military: five generals have defected to the UKRS and only one general, Dirvo Hojk carved-up his domain, establishing an exilist-run territory (this would soon unite with Krunnoz regime as the UKRS continues to make gains). Several colonies up to 15 parsecs from Lutuk joined the UKRS rebellion.

The Buzuik Campaign and Krunnoz's Resignation[]

Strengthened by their surprise conquest of Lutuk and the sudden defection of neighboring colonies emboldened the UKRS to continue their revolution. This started with a campaign towards the industrial center of the Kronu empire (commonly known as the Buzuik Center), all of which centered around the industrial colony of Buzuik. While the UKRS expected smooth sailing, Krunnoz immediately sent soldiers towards the Center to prop up NK governor Krusco Biesco, who was generally seen to be more popular than Krunnoz himself. When the UKRS campaign (often called the Buzuik Campaign) began, both sides received heavy casualties, possibly numbering 200 million. Buzuik was not outright seized by either side, but was divided between Krunnoz and the UKRS.

The Buzuik campaign has sent shockwaves and severe repercussions to the Kronu. Conflict in the Buzuik Center caused a massive refugee crisis, with populations in both Kronu government and UKRS territories swelling, putting greater stress in an already struggling agricultural industry. Famine resulted, with estimates of up to 700 million dying from starvation or being shot down by government, UKRS, or rising Kronu piracy. A near-total breakdown in public services also began; with homelessness, relatively contained prior to the Revolution, being a common sight. In government territory, Krunnoz passed emergency reforms to alleviate the crisis, including cracking down on government corruption and increasing the budget on health and water services. While famine persisted, medical and water treatment services temporarily avoided total collapse. In UKRS territory, the swelling of the population resulted in possibly a much larger death toll. UKRS leadership under Bozol Gruesc and Krou Jascu immediately enacted agrarian reforms, increasing agricultural output and employing more citizens towards the agricultural workforce; when UKRS-controlled planets were known to have little farmland. UKRS reforms resulted in carving up city plots for farmland and digging aqueducts and canals, filling up cities with water and increasing homelessness and overcrowding in dilapidated buildings. On the other hand, the rise in homelessness provided the UKRS with useful conscription.

Two years into the conflict, with rising casualties and a stalemate in the Buzuik Center, Ukul Krunnoz announced his resignation, the dissolution of the NK, a temporary ceasefire, and the calling for elections across the empire. Krunnoz hoped that once he is out of politics, the Kronu Revolution, already devolving into a civil war, could briefly end and neglected republican institutions could resolve a growing humanitarian catastrophe. Shockingly, the UKRS accepted the ceasefire, who are also involved in a growing internal conflict between the Gruesc/Jascu leadership, the Dzzeerazza faction and its Dzzitian backers, and the many soldiers growing disgruntled with the conflict. The exilist domain under Hojk also accepted the ceasefire, even though the domain was not an active player in the conflict (but also saw a swelling of refugees). The ceasefire immediately went into effect after Krunnoz and Hojk conducted a successful campaign kicking out UKRS forces in Buzuik.

Elections[]

With the ceasefire in effect, election centers were immediately established across the empire. Left-leaning NK remnants united under the secular Kronu Social Exilist Party (KSEP), Hojk forces established the Covenant for Exilist Restoration (CER), and the UKRS revised its goals (since Krunnoz and the NK no longer ran the government). One week prior towards the election, certain elements of the Dzeerazza faction of the UKRS (an action with complete backing of the Dzzitians and the Gauru), re-established the DKP (acronym soon changed to KDP) under the leadership of the young nationalist ideologue Dzortou Krin , causing fears that the ceasefire could break (since some of these elements were governing UKRS territory). UKRS leader Jascu immediately declared that the KSEP was using the DKP to split the vote, declaring the election to be rigged in favor of Krunnoz loyalists.

Election results were incredibly contested. The KSEP received 44% of the vote, the UKRS received 25%, CER received 21%, the DKP received 5%, and the remaining 5% did not vote. The elections had a 92% voter turnout, making it the most democratic election in Kronu history. KSEP leader Exoste Fughah was declared president and CER strongman Hojk prime minister. Unfortunately, conflict soon arose with the KSEP and the CER uniting under a coalition, often declared the "Exilist Coalition." The UKRS and the DKP declaring foul play and resuming conflict.

Resumption of Fighting and the Collapse of the Factions[]

The Exilist Coalition received its first defeat in the hands of the UKRS once the latter took near complete control of the Buzuik Center, yet Buzuik itself and a handful of colonies continued to be under control of the Coalition. With this sudden victory, the KDP announced an alliance with the UKRS, hoping to gain significant positions in what seemed to be a complete UKRS victory. Fughah and Hojk immediately declared Manpuntos and the surrounding colonies under a "state of siege," delegating all funding towards the military. This saw a further decline in social services and the strengthening of the Coalition military, increasingly under the power of Hojk. Some 20 million died from a lack of food, clean water, and access to social services.

The UKRS/KDP alliance, sensing victory, announced their "Final Campaign:" the conquest of Manpuntos and all remaining Kronu territories. The resulting year-long campaign, which saw estimates up to 15 billion deaths from fighting and near-collapse of social services, saw the UKRS failing to take Manpuntos and the Coalition regaining half of the Buzuik center. This saw the UKRS nearly lose its Dzzitian backer's supplies (which was already dwindling due to Dzalzat's reforms) and nearly splitting and the prestige of the Coalition grow. At the same time, Kronu piracy has increased, since the Coalition did not see the need to control space travel (the unrestricted travel of ships across the Kronu Empire was seen as a Krunnoz apolicy not worth repeating) along with the delegation of resources to the military.

The Coalition collapsed with Hojk overthrowing Fughah (who died in a mysterious helicopter accident). The resulting coup saw the republic dissolve and the CER in complete control of the new government. Hojk declared an "Exilist Principality" and attempted to kick out the UKRS from the Buzuik Center and conduct bombing campaigns across the Kronu Empire. It is estimated that the coup fallout resulted in half a million being killed. At the same time, the UKRS's main backers, the Dzzitians, dissolving its Dzeerazza institutions and completely withdrawing all funding towards the rebellion. With the clock ticking and a relatively high morale among its troops after repelling Hojk's forces, the UKRS attempted to retake all of the Buzuik Center while also advancing on the recently untouched Exilist domains. 1 billion casualties were reported, but UKRS objectives were not met, and Bozol Gruesc being killed in the assault. The failure of the campaign saw the complete collapse of the UKRS/KDP alliance: with UKRS military officials splitting and establishing their own warlord-run domains. The only faction that remained relatively united was the KDP, under the leadership of Krin.

Sensing victory, Hojk announced plans of retaking all of the UKRS territory to the public. With the collapse of social services and demoralization of the armies, there was massive public backlash. Remaining Kronu generals overthrew and executed Hojk, declared the "Kronu State," and announced calls for a ceasefire. However, at that point, entire Kronu territories were led by warlords unable to contact each other due to a lack of spaceships, fuel, and rampant piracy, the call was ignored. With the Kronu State only controlling Manpuntos, the Kronu homeplanet (and usually in conflict with the planet's moon), the generals split and established their own warlord domains. With no unifying force across Kronu territory, all of it led by warlords, the Kronu would see no change for another 40 years.

Kronu Today[]

Population[]

Prior to the Kronu Revolution, population was around 24,765,400,000. 50 years into the conflict, it was declared that half of the population perished due to fighting, complete collapse of social services, or escape to other non-Kronu territories.

Economy[]

The Kronu economy, as of now, is often described as anarchy in action. No reliable data, however, can confirm this.

Government[]

For some 20 years, the Kronu were under de facto dictatorship under Ukul Krunnoz. In theory, power is vested upon the Kronu National (NK), a nationalist centrist socialistic political party. But in practice, Krunnoz and the military exercise complete control over society. Upon the beginning of the Kronu Revolution, Krunnoz and his top advisors debated whether the NK should be disbanded or reorganized, yet the most likely fate for the powerless NK would be disbandment.

Currently, there is no functioning government ruling the Kronu, as it is divided between warlords.

Military[]

Religion[]

Exilism was always the official religion of the Kronu since the tribe stage. But for 15 years, starting from the collapse of Exilism in the universe, the authority of exilism dissipated as Krunnoz began to distance his government from the church and rely on the military more. Upon the Kronu Revolution, Krunnoz restablished exilism as the official religion of the Kronu Republic in order to keep citizens from defecting to the UKRS.

Foreign Relations[]

The Kronu initially enjoyed friendly relations with its neighbors in the Fried Egg Galaxy and exilist empires in the universe. Once exilist governments in the universe collapsed, the Kronu became isolated from universal affairs & more focused on galactic issues. Once the Kronu Revolution began, the Kronu Republic was pressured by intergalactic sanctions due to their suppression of peaceful protests further isolating the war-torn state. Only the Kungoz, Aurots, Torzova, and Yureke maintained relations.
